The Challenge
The scaffold was required on Oxford Road, one of Manchester's busiest student corridors with 15,000+ daily footfall. Full pedestrian access had to be maintained throughout the academic term. The university's safety protocols exceeded standard construction requirements, requiring additional documentation, daily inspections, and student safety briefings.
Our Solution
We erected an extensive public protection gantry with full-height debris netting and acoustic barriers along the entire Oxford Road frontage. The scaffold featured a dedicated covered pedestrian walkway with LED lighting and clear signage. Daily safety inspections were documented and shared with the university estates team. All scaffolders underwent university-specific induction training before starting work.
The Result
Zero safety incidents across 16 weeks during peak term time. The covered walkway became so effective that students requested it remain as a permanent feature. The university estates team praised our documentation and communication as the best they had experienced from any contractor. The project was featured in the university's sustainability report as a model of responsible construction.

"Bee Scaffolding managed the most complex public access challenge we have faced in a decade of campus development. Their covered walkway kept 15,000 students safe, and their daily reporting was exceptional. A benchmark for university contractors."
